Team Dynamics

My first year overseas was definitely an interesting one. I was only on the team for a couple of weeks before I started to have a theory that one of my (younger) teammates was having an affair with my newly married coach. My theory was confirmed a few weeks later. There was obviously some favoritism on the court (and off). It was only a matter of time before the basketball board of directors decided that they should intervene. The next month consisted of a few too many meetings, questions, and calls home to my agent.

And then the extremely awkward moments began. They fired the head coach and the player that he was sleeping with. The awkward part? She continued to live in the same house with me and another one of my teammates for the next three months. I'm pretty sure that I locked my door every night for the remainder of my time there for fear that she might stab me in my sleep. The head coach lived in the same town so I would have frequent encounters with him. He usually asked me about the team and even asked me what I said about him in the meetings. He also told me that the team was going to fall apart without him. UNCOMFORTABLE. It sort of felt like they blamed me for the entire situation even though I had nothing to do with it.

Long story, short: You should probably avoid sleeping with your coach.
